Institutional and Economic Instruments for Sustainable Water Management in the Mediterranean Region
The objective of INECO is to establish a Mediterranean network of research institutes, public authorities and stakeholders for promoting common research and analysing decision making practices on the application of institutional instruments in the water sector.

Objectives | INECO encompasses a series of coordination activities aiming to: - Promote the exchange of best available practices, information and research between participating institutions regarding the role of institutional and economic instruments in sustainable and efficient water use - Enhance synergies between the partners of the consortium and other stakeholders through the performance of studies and the organisation of participatory workshops for assessing the efficiency of currently applied water management practices and validating alternative economic tools and policies, and - Promote capacity building for the adoption of constructively engaged Integrated Water Resources Management and with emphasis on socio-economics and policy considerations. |

Results | The Regional Activities are the core of the project, and will be carried out individually in Cyprus, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Algeria and Morocco. They involve the identification and analysis of water management problems, and the development of responses (alternatives) incorporating institutional and economic instruments. | ||
