News Saudi Arabia's Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) to invite tenders for new desalination capacity

Saudi Arabia's Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) is poised to invite tenders for its planned increase in water production in the kingdom to meet is soaring demand for potable water according to a recent report in MEED. 

The state-run utility intends to up the country's desalination capacity by almost 50% to some 6.5 million m³. It is developing new facilities including the eastern Jubail 3 plant in Rabigh and the Jeddah 3 desalination plant. Investment in Jubail - the biggest project - has been reported as SAR 30 billion (US$ 8 billion), while the Rabigh water plant is expected to cost SAR 6 billion (US$ 1.6 billion). 

Sites for other proposed projects elsewhere in Saudi Arabia include the cities of Dhiba and Omloj.
