Programme Director – Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor
VACANCY: Programme Director
RECRUITER: Water &
Sanitation for the Urban Poor
LOCATION: UK
Based
HOURS: Part-Time (40% full time equivalent per
country)
Closing date: 5pm on Friday 10 February 2012
Background:
Water and Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP) is a tri-sector
partnership between the private sector, civil society and academia focused on
addressing the increasing global problem of inadequate access to water and
sanitation for the urban poor and the attainment of the Millennium Development
Goal (MDG) targets.
It achieves this through supporting the adoption and replication of effective, sustainable and scalable models of pro-poor urban water and sanitation services by service providers and/or national governments. WSUP empowers service providers to demonstrate effective models in order to mobilise investments for further improvements and promotes successful approaches internationally. To meet its goals, WSUP delivers programmes in six countries under the guidance of Programme Directors.
About the role:
In order to effectively deliver its
growing programme, WSUP is seeking qualified Programme Directors who are able to
take responsibility for one or two of its country programmes (Kenya, Ghana,
Mozambique, Madagascar, Zambia and Bangladesh) with typical annual budgets of
US$1-2m per country.
You will oversee and mentor the Country Programme Manager(s), ensure appropriate staff are used in the delivery of programmes and that effective procedural guidance is in place. In addition to programme direction, you will be responsible for performance monitoring and programme growth, reviewing the overall status of the programme on a continuous basis and seeking opportunities to build the programme to greater scale where this can lead to greater impact for the urban poor.
Person Profile:
We are looking for someone with
demonstrable programme director skills and experience at a senior level, with a
track record in delivering programme goals within deadlines and budgets. You
will have experience of working in developing countries, ideally in poverty
alleviation or related fields, demonstrating an ability to work in a range of
cultures.
With excellent interpersonal skills you will be able to supervise Programme Managers, negotiate with WSUP members and external partners at country and HQ levels, and provide effective support to programme teams, often at a distance.
