During its 66th session on Sept. 16 in New York City, the United Nations General Assembly will host a summit on water scarcity and its interrelated issues of climate change and drought, global security and sustainable development, according to a press release.
“Building Water Awareness: Summit at the UN” will provide world leaders, academics, non-government organizations, private sector representatives and the UN General Assembly an opportunity to take the first step toward organizing a worldwide education and awareness campaign on the global water crisis, the release stated.
The day-long event will feature a welcoming address by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon as well as multiple panels addressing the myriad water issues facing developed and developing countries alike, according to the release.
