Spain: The Government admits that the desalination is costly and proposes another water transfer

The basin plan says that the "Tajo-Segura" canal is "essential" but not sufficient, so looking for other resources is needed.

During his visit to the desalination Plant of San Pedro del Pinatar, in early 2007, President Rodriguez Zapatero proclaimed that the best thing for Murcia and the south of Alicante is to have "autonomy" of water, and to not depend on other regions. That independence was going to provide the industrial production of fresh water. The reality is different and starts from the beginning: a lack of resources.

The government now admits that desalination is costly and proposes another water transfer.
