On April 11, 2017, the Johns Hopkins University SAIS Europe, Bologna (JHU) will host an international conference convened within the framework of New-Med, an ongoing “Track II” initiative that aims to create a network of analysts, practitioners and research centres to foster dialogue and an exchange of ideas on key-contemporary issues affecting the Mediterranean region.
Jointly organised by the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI) and the JHU, the conference is entitled "Regional (Dis)order in the Middle East: Historical Legacies and Current Shifts". Invited participants, drawn from a mix of internationally renown academics and policy-makers, will gather in Bologna to trace ongoing dynamics back to major historical junctures, discuss the new potential regional order, examine the rising of non-state and hybrid actors, and analyze the role of international and regional players.
