Summer Water Academy
Communicating Science on the Water- Energy- Food Nexus: Bridging the Link between Science & Policy
19-23 May 2014 in Bonn, Germany
As part of the international conference on "Sustainability in the Water-Energy-Food Nexus. Synergies and Tradeoffs: Governance and Tools at various Scales“, to be held in Bonn, Germany on 19-20 May, 2014, a summer academy will bring together young scientists and leading experts.
Main emphasis will be to identify key water issues and environmental problems in the Water-Energy- Food (WEF) - Nexus and improve communication of research findings to scientific and political communities. The academy recognizes the value of increasing the visibility and policy relevance of research findings in creating funding and research opportunities for young scientists.
To this end, participants will be asked to submit a paper related to the themes of the conference "Sustainability in the Water-Energy-Food Nexus”:
- Tools for the sustainable implementation of the Nexus approach
- Governance and management of the Nexus
- Considering the Environment and Livelihoods
- Implementing the Nexus at Various Scales
During the summer school week, participants will present their papers followed by intensive mentoring and feedback from experts and peers. This process will help participants in gaining maximum attention for their research findings, increasing their impact both in and outside the academic community. The final papers will be published in a special issue of a scientific journal.
The summer school will facilitate dialogue and interaction among participants and senior academics, explore the present knowledge base, identify the most critical gaps in WEF-Nexus research and illuminate best practices of communicating research findings to a wider scientific and political audience.
The broad goals of the summer academy will be:
- Improving research papers by translating research findings into policy relevant recommendations
- Policy dialogue between young and senior professionals
- Professional networking amongst young and senior professionals to linkup synergy for further collaboration
All participants will receive a certificate of attendance.
