Forum GMES 2008 - Space at the service of the environment and security
The GMES programme (Global Monitoring of Environment and Security), a
joint initiative of the EU and the European Space Agency (ESA), is
designed to provide Europe with a major information system on
environment and security using data collected by spatial and
terrestrial infrastructures.
In 2008, it is intended that the programme will move from its R&D phase into that of pre-operational demonstrations.
The forum's purpose is to demonstrate the capabilities of the initial
services, to present their advantages to the users and to encourage
companies, especially those downstream such as SMEs specialised in
environmental information, to use these services to improve their
competitiveness.
