Event Practical training on Mediterranean Protected Areas

IUCN-Med is pleased to announce the first course organised under the framework of the two-year cooperation agreement signed with the International University of Andalucia (UNIA) with the support of the Consejeria de Medio Ambiente (Junta de Andalucia - regional government), which will be held in Malaga (Parque Tecnológico de Andalucía) from 12 to 16 February 2007. This one-week course, under the title of “Mediterranean Protected Areas from IUCN’s perspective”, is aimed at environmental science graduates and protected area managers from the region. Participants will be able to benefit from the Mediterranean experience and know how from representatives of regional governments, protected area managers, consultants and IUCN experts in the subject. It will include a theoretical and practical approach to the management of protected areas with real case studies organised in working groups. The conclusions drawn from the course will feed into the organisation of the forthcoming IUCN World Summit on Protected Area Categories to be held in March 2007. The draft programme and details on how to register will be posted on our website and the UNIA’s in the next weeks.
