Objectives | Objective: - To develop a low cost technology with minimal capital investment for wastewater treatment, based on sun energy and targeted on thermal disinfection and distillation of effluent. The aim is to produce rather clean water (at least suitable for irrigation) and solid residues which can be either used, i.e. as soil conditioner, or treated as genuine waste; - To develop a low cost smell sequestering agent based on selected dried vegetable material (renewable raw material) for treating the residues from the distillation process; - To develop drying and vitrification processes for the further treatment of the resulting solid residues. |
||
Results | EXPECTED RESULTS: - Development of a plant for the treatment of waste water from agricul-tural production, considering low investment and operating costs. ACHIEVED RESULTS: (31/10/2000) - The aim of the project to develop a low-cost on-site treatment method for highly concentrated waste waters with the help of solar energy was not fully reached. In spite of partial success concerning drying and distillation with pilot plants, the effluent quality obtained was not sufficient. Some problems with the elimination of residues still have to be solved. - Although the costs can be estimated only within certain limits at the present state of the work, the investment costs determined and thus the specific treatment costs, related to the input material "olives", appear to be too high. |
