Policy Guidelines for Wastewater Management in the Gaza Strip
-
The Gaza Strip is one of the most densely populated areas in the world with
very limited natural resources. Groundwater resources in this
area are over-exploited.
- In order to alleviate this problem, a long-term strategy for developing
and supporting renewable water resources is essential. Current
wastewater collection and treatment facilities are inadequate and capital
investment is required to upgrade the infrastructure system in order to
produce re-usable wastewater.

Objectives | - The objective of the project is to develop and establish realistic and
achievable standards through a logical process of research measures. - Activities include the assimilation of existing data, training of staff, the establishment of standards and the dissemination of information. German and Moroccan experts, who will work together during the various phases of the project implementation, have extensive experience in the field of wastewater management. - The methodology and procedures are based on an innovative approach which could potentially be re-used in other countries of the region. |
||
Results | - The primary anticipated result is the production of wastewater effluent
quality standards that can be applied to future donor-funded sewage
treatment plant projects in the Gaza Strip, obviating the need for
time-consuming and expensive individual pre-design studies. - The project will make a significant contribution to the effective implementation of a long-term water re-use strategy in the Gaza Strip. |
